New electrolyte promises to rid lithium batteries of short circuiting dendrites

New electrolyte promises to rid lithium batteries of short-circuiting dendrites

Dendrites – thin conductive filaments that form inside lithium batteries – reduce the life of these cells and are often responsible for them catching fire. Scientists working at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) of the US Department of Energy claim to have produced a new electrolyte for lithium batteries that not only completely eliminates

CARRAGEENAN A SEAWEED DERIVATIVE CAN STABILIZE LITHIUM SULFUR BATTERIES SURPRISINGLY

CARRAGEENAN, A SEAWEED DERIVATIVE, CAN STABILIZE LITHIUM-SULFUR BATTERIES SURPRISINGLY

Lithium-sulfur batteries are suitable for both vehicle and grid applications as they are ultra-cheap, high-energy devices. Sulfur is a very low-cost material and the energy capacity is much higher than that of lithium-ion. So, lithium-sulfur is one chemistry that can possibly meet the demand for energy storage at a cheap price. However, the serious problem is, lithium-sulfur

RESEARCHERS FROM NREL DISCOVERED NEW METHOD TO DEVELOP RECHARGEABLE MAGNESIUM METAL BATTERY

RESEARCHERS FROM NREL DISCOVERED NEW METHOD TO DEVELOP RECHARGEABLE MAGNESIUM-METAL BATTERY

A team of researchers from National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has discovered a new method for developing a rechargeable non-aqueous magnesium-metal battery. A proof-of-concept paper published in Nature Chemistry. It described how the scientists pioneered a method to enable the reversible chemistry of magnesium metal in the noncorrosive carbonate-based electrolytes and tested the concept in a prototype cell.

Lithium Ion Battery Warms Up Operates In Subzero Temperatures

Lithium-Ion Battery Warms Up, Operates In Subzero Temperatures

A new “all-climate” lithium-ion battery can rapidly heat itself to overcome freezing temperatures with little sacrifice in energy storage capacity and power, researchers say. This advance might enable applications for which high-performance batteries are needed in extremely cold temperatures, such as electric cars in cold climates, high-altitude drones, and space exploration. EC Power is now

Intelligent 4 Cell Lithium Battery Management with CAN LIN Interface

Intelligent 4-Cell Lithium Battery Management with CAN/LIN Interface

This design is a battery management circuit, which involves the use of CAN/LIN interface. The system addresses the matter about managing rechargeable batteries. This design features an 8-output hardware configurable, high side/low switch with 16-bit serial input control using the serial peripheral interface (SPI). Two of the outputs are directly controlled using a microcontroller which
